I just let mine my Pro Guard blades sit in the SS until the next use. My last blade went 41 shaves.

Feather Artist Club SS.......First shave & I'm Impressed!
My son keeps his in the blade, in the shower (he's a shower shaver). His blades (pro-guard) last him about 15 shaves. I'm sure that if at least he would take them out of the shower, it will last him longer, but I guess when he start paying for it, he will.
I'm impress with ace longevity with his!
I'm presently keeping mine in the blade, however, I take mine out, pat dry it, put it back in the razor and store it in a dry drawer. Only have 4 shaves with one blade. I intent to try new blades before their time, so I would not know for a long time, what's my true blade longevity is. Double O

You are so right about recommending the FOLDING Feather for newbies. It is easier to control and to maintain the right angle than the Japanese style for newcomers to SR shaving. However, as an experience user I have really come to appreciate the flexibility of the Japanese style, non-folding SS.

Feather Artist Club SS.......First shave & I'm Impressed!
This week I decided to try the feather lights. Two thumbs down. Shaved on Monday and today. Due to the shortness of the blade, the angle needs to be steeper than any regular straight I ever used, making it unnatural and dangerous. Evident by the skip and cut I had on the upper lib (mustache area) due to the high angle used. The only time I felt it was an advantage was on the coup de maƮtre. Not big but I thought if you where new to that cut it will minimize the blade exposure, and have a less chance of a bad cut. Another advantage (maybe) would be that you can see the blade better with high angles, making it easier to start and stop where you want. An application would be for sculpting hair designs on the head or beard!?? (just thinking).
Anyway, that would be the last time I use those blades with the feather SS. Next I'm trying the Dorco's ( thanks to MJC). Have the super-pro blades coming all the way from Belgium, thanks to Snuff!
Double O
P.S. If you are new to DE or the feather artist club or any of the feather clone blades, my view are only personal and apply to me only. You need to try different blades to determine which is best for you. I'm just hoping my observations can help others make better inform dessicion on their next blade purchased. And just giving a little back to this forum, for the love of shaving!

Thanked: 14Is there an online source for the Teakwood Artist Club SS folding razor?
For the last 3 months, I've been using the kamisori type SS razor w/Pro blades for smooth safe shaves. This is my 1st straight and have been pleasantly surprised with only one small cut so far. I like the convenience of Gillette's old slogan of "No stropping, No honing".
I've got up to 10 shaves per blade.

No online source for the teakwood SS yet, I bought one from someone on another forum but that's not longer a option as that person has in the last months taken money from people without delivering the goods. Even the official Feather web site has them not listed yet. I sold it to another member because I prefer the DX version.

Progress Report...
The more I shave with this system (Feather or Feather type Blade Holders and Blades - Feather, KAI, Dorco) the more impressed I am with them.
The testing has been slow largely because the blades are lasting so long. I have 13 great shaves on a single Feather Pro Guard that is still great (Hat tip to Ace & OO for the samples - Ace has been getting 40+ shaves from a single Pro Guard)
OO was our Lights tester - my understanding is that in Japan they are used more for cosmetic purposes by Barbers - OO's comments seem to confirm that.
I've only tried the Dorco once in the CJB. It was my first shave with the "system" and was weeper filled. After 40 plus shaves I realize that my Dorco problem was operator error - using SR angle and pressure instead of Feather (lower)
Feather Pro - Tried this with the CJB (Korean Clone of the DX/RG Kamisori style) on a 2 week road trip - great results - a few nicks due to operator error (landing and tension)
One of the things that I like is that when coupled with cold water (Polar) shaving I'm able to maintain the SR shaving life on the road (check/ship those blades) and during the work week. Not that this is the three minute shower shave with a cart from back when I was a non-believer in the way of the Straight....but with little more than one careful pass you can get to DFS.
If I have an early flight in the AM I will shave the night before with great results.
And I've confirmed the idea that this would be a good system for a new SR shaver to use. IMO its easier to learn/use than a Shavette and you can tune it for the price of a pack of blades.
Speaking of Blades, thanks to Ace & OO's PIF of Pro Guards I can now PIF 5 blade sample kits. (Dorco Super, Feather Pro, Pro Guard, Light & Kai Mild) - send me a PM w/mailing info if you are interested.

I too am grateful to MJC for a nice variety of blades. It is also taking me awhile to finish my evaluation due to the long life of the Super - 15 shaves before it started pulling. Now, with MJC's variety pak I am going to mix it up by changing between blades after only two shaves, carefully documenting my results to report back here. That should finish my task in less than a couple of weeks. More to come...
