Unusual W&B
When is a W&B not a wedge ? When it is a Zephyr.
Anyone seen one of these before ?
Obviously post 1890 by the stamps & quite the departure from the older wedge style. More like a big Solingen.
Scored on eBay under the radar while Bengall hunting. Very healthy 13/16 blade. I think I may like this one..
btw Sorry bout the oil droplets but I just honed it & humidity is about 80% atm.

Nice score! Snagging an EBay item under the radar is as good as finding a rare straight in a local shop well under the going value. Both are rare and very exciting when found.

Nice score
You know where to send it right?
This is the second one I see, there was another one on eBay about a year ago, but with my typical luck seller refused to ship to Norway
Serious though, if you ever decide to part with it you know where to find me

Thank you but remember no sales talk allowed especially as I really like the shave I just had off this beauty.
I can understand your desire for a razor namesake tho. Unlucky re the shipping to Norway.
Cheers Grant. It was listed as a Bengall as it was in a Bengall box but it was described as having Wade & Butcher on the tang.
Surprised I was sole bidder & 7 hours after putting in my max bid I got the email that said I won.

The owner of the Zephyr trademark was Marx & Cie.(Marx & Co.), Solingen. The trademark was registered in 1900, No. 41547.
At the beginning of the 20th century, closer to WWI, Adolph Kastor became the owner of many German and English trademarks. His brother, Nathan Kastor established a factory, the Germania Cutlery Works in Solingen. Another brother, Sigmund Kastor is a controlling director of Wade & Butcher in Sheffield during WWI specializing in straight razors.
So. May be, your razor is one of Kastor Brothers products.Last edited by manah; 06-01-2012 at 01:03 PM.
