    Default much cleaner now ;-)

just got it today..Ebay find.. ..it was COVERED in dark spots/tarnish everywhere...looked like the buyer either priced it..or bought it at the price stated..I didnt

45 minutes of polishing/rinsing under water/wiping with towel..repeat again..im thinking ill leave it "as is"...gives it that "vintage cool factor"

havent honed it yet..waiting to stop sweating from the "cleaning workout"

    I was told it's a 8/8 at toe and 6/8 towards heel (1 3/4 width)

So..what is Silver Steel exactly?..American or German or Swedish Steel?

Scales are very loose..box isnt matching but is in mint condition

Thats going to make you real happy when you hone it. I love my Elliot.

Get the hinge pin tight, that blade has some mass. It will swing down on you and teach you a lesson when you aren't paying attention.

Silver steel is not American, German, or Swedish. Its a Sheffield steel.

That's an attractive Elliot! Your lucky I didn't spot that one...

I'd say leave her as she is - sometimes these old Sheffield's loose their soul when they loose the age spots.

I vote to leave it as is. I think silver steel actually does have a little bit of silver in it.

Have you honed wedges before? Definitely use tape. I stubborned one out without tape and have hone wear >3/16ths along the spine. It looks like a real clumsy **** worked it over. That would have been me.

I really like the shape/shoulderless grind of that blade. With the thumb notch I bet the ergonomics will be a real treat!

    Best wishes.

    A very nice find!
I have a couple of Elliots in Silver Steel, it won't get easily more shiny than that... for some reason rust stains on Silver Steel seem to be impossible to clean. At least, I don't know how. I also tried with silver cleaning products, and it was worse than before...
You can see my Elliots here: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ouchables.html the pictures are terrible, but you can see the stains. the pics were taken after polishing and honing.

P.S. If anybody knows how to make an old rusty SS shiny, I would be very thankful to know how...
