Yes all the razors they have marked as 3/8 will measure as 4/8 from spine to edge.
I have/had owned all of these Filarmonicas at some stage and all of them marked as 3/8 will measure as 4/8 spine to edge.
The No.11 for cutting hair (para corte cabello) measures 5/8 from tip to spine and the size of the Henckels marked as 5/8 appears to be the same as the No.11 "4/8"

What I don´t understand is this H Eicker Biedermeier which is stamped as 3/8 but measures 4/8:-

For that matter I have a NOS No.14 stamped as 7/8 which measures 8/8

Yep I agree with you that the Fili is 1/8 smaller that the others, but if you measure all of them from spine to edge you will find that the others are 5/8 and not 4/8.
    Nice razors btw

Thanks bon! And thanks for your help!

I like my 4/8's and under. The majority of my collection is such. I note that everyone seemingly measures differently. Even between those "other three" there are 1/16's worth of a difference.

Maybe I'll need to reconsider my size preference from 4/8 and under to 5/8 and under lol. Woot!! That'll make the pool of possible razors a whole lot larger lol!!!

It all depends on what convention of measurement the razor maker adopts! Confusing, eh?! Some measure from top of spine to edge of bevel (rare) while others measure from the flat of the spine (where the hollow grind meets the spine) to tip of bevel. To make things even more confusing there was also an old unit of measurement used for razors, which did not correlate exactly with imperial measurement, and gave rise to even more oddness!

    Regards,
    Neil

    Thanks Neil,
    that makes things clearer.............or not
I will stick with point of spine to edge of bevel measurements as its less ambiguous to describe a razors width.
So the short answer to a long story is "yes Filarmonica and many other makers made both 3/8 and 4/8 razors, and both measurements can be found in the same razor!"

    Question:-
    is there a method of measurement to make a 6/8 into a 9/8 ???

Guys, LOL, I can't prove either way, I don't have one. I'm just going on what I read and what I was told when I called and asked about 20 minutes ago. Phil said that was measured overall width from back of the spine to the edge of the edge. Me, I have no empirical knowledge of this size razor so I yield. I do know my Para Profesionales Novodur, NOS #14 is exactly 8/8. Still, I ain't buyin one to prove it one way or the other.
    Bon, have a great day!!

    Regards,

    Howard

Yes. You have to oil the blade, then put it on top of a "grow bag" in the greenhouse. Do not leave it there too long though, or it will turn into a cleaver...
