IMHO the Joe Rodgers with the semi circle "England" stamped behind the regular stamp were blanks that were made before 1889 and processed shortly afterwards. The later stampings incorporated "England" in a straight line under the regular stamping. Not sure if that is correct but that is my story and I'm sticking to it.

I had a couple of them with that stamp and was fascinated as to why they would have done that. My explanation may or may not be correct but it makes sense to me. Thanks again manah for being the SRP historian. We can always depend on your knowledge.
