    Default Bought my 2nd razor

Hello SRP. I've been crawling this forum and shaving with a straight (a Dovo Best, recommended by this forum) for about a year now, and have been really happy with it. Maybe I've caught the bug, though, because I've suddenly been finding myself dredging the local antique shops looking for a new blade. Anyone else know how I feel?

I've had no luck until finding my first one yesterday, and it was a Böker, no less. It had significant rust, but I thought the scales looked original. The stamp made me think it was older, like the 1924-35 range, but the included box says 2006.

Anyway, I thought I would post a few pictures and see what you guys thought. I managed to talk the guy down to $38. I'm hoping it was a good buy, but, if not, I'm really not out much. At worst, I'll get some good honing practice.

    EDIT:

Good news. There was only one significant pit, but, after a few hours on my Norton 4/8, the blade took a gorgeous edge. It started life as a 7/8, but is now closer to a 13/16. Shaves about like my Dovo, now. SUCCESS!

You'll have to get that devils spit off the edge and see what lies beneath. Hopefully it hasn't done any damage.

I'm not seeing a lot of replies here, it could be that people don't take any joy in delivering bad news. From my perspective, that looks like a very difficult save, maybe impossible. That pitting along the edge looks nasty, and I'm not one who is afraid of shaving with a razor with a little pitting in the bevel. Possibly with some extraordinarily patient sanding...... anyway, good luck, and I'd hope to see some pictures that tell me I'm all wet.

Yeah, it needs quite a bit of love. I'm about to put it to my stones and see where I end up. If the pitting is too deep, I'll just polish it and have a pretty paper weight. No big!

And I just finished work on a nice old Leon that now goes from 11/16 to 13/16 heel to toe thanks to a nasty chip that needed fixing.

Nicely done Miketron - very happy you were able to save it. Would love to see a pic of the finished article.
