Thanked: 20Grandfather's Razors - ID help needed
Hey guys-
So my Grandfather passed a bit over a year ago, and my Grandmother ran across a couple razors he used before switching over to safety razors. One is a Rondenella and the other is a no name. Anyone have any info on the Rondinella (or the other, although I'm sure that's a long shot). Here are some pictures (if these don't embed, can someone shoot tell me how to do that!). The Rondinlla says 'L. Sommer & Co | Solingen| 195' on one side of the tang, the other is just an image of a bird and underneath it says Rondinella. The Rondinella has white plasticy scales, the 'no name' has black plastic scales in the pics below.
You'll notice both have some extreme hone wear toward the toe. My grandmother said she only remembers gramp with a stone, no strop. So I'm thinking he passed over the stone instead of using a strop! She said he eventually broke the stone, which I believe ended his straight razor shaving days. How do you guys think these would shave if they get cleaned up? Also, the scales of the Rondenella are slightly warped, and the razor doesn't center well in the scales.
So any thoughts on the manufacturer? And what do you think of the hone wear, can I still use it - I'd love to if I can. Thanks much guys, appreciate it!!
