Thanked: 2Information on a Henckels?
Hi Guys,
Just won an auction for a vintage Henckels Friodur and have a question. The information listed the stamping on the tang as 17 1/2. I interpreted this to mean 17 1/2 mm or somewhere close to 11/16 blade width which would be perfect for what I was looking for. Is that what the 17 1/2 signifies?
Fingers crossed, its a nice looking razor in the pics.
Thanks,
Dave.

Thanked: 2Interesting.
There seems to be a veritable lack of definative data on this. I recieved the razor today, beautiful vintage 7/8 Friodur. For a factory offering these things are finished exceptionally well. The 17 1/2 stamped on the tail seems to designate something other than blade width. Another auction is listing something closer to a 5/8 Friodur having a 50 stamped on the tail.
what the hay?
Frisearch continues.

Those are just model marks, DOVO's have them too. Dovo 6/8 Special full hollow is No. 300, i think...

Thanked: 2Thank you for the information Nenad. I hadnt even considered that.
I honed it up today, unbelievably accurate blade geometry. The hone line is the same width along the entire edge of the blade on both sides. Nice.

Thanked: 79Friodurs are good stuff for sure. One of mine is marked the same way, never quite understood the 72 1/2 marking. I have other Henckels which have model numbers (like the one listed above) but this is the only one including a fraction.
Interesting.
