What are the top English Straight Razor Manufacturers?
I'm wanting to buy a vintage English razor (probably many) but there are just so many maker's out there. Some of the ones I've been looking at are:
KROPP
CLEMENTS
MAPPIN & WEBB CO
MARSHES & SHEPHERD
JOSEPH RODGERS & SONS
FREDERICK REYNOLDS
TAYLOR WITNESS
JOHN HEIFFOR
GEORGE WOSTENHOLM & SON
JOHN WRAGG
WADE & BUTCHER
GEORGE BUTLER & CO
What are the top 5? I suppose these are mostly Sheffield steel which was renound for good quality. Are there any really sought after rarer manufacturers I should be adding to the list? What are the scarcist and and does rarity mean much higher price?

Thus is like asking a group if people what their favorite color is. I'm sure you'll get a lot of different opinions. Personally, I'm partial to J Wostenholm EBRO razors.

Yes, possibly like asking for a favourite colour. Maybe it would be easier to ask which to avoid, and I take it none of the above list? What is the holy grail of straight razors, or are most equally good in their own different ways?

+1 for both the J Wostenholm EBRO and the Fenney/Bingham Tally Ho.
Another that comes to mind (possibly) is W Greaves & Sons. I say possibly because I haven't finished restoring mine yet and so can't speak from experience, but I've heard good things.
I have a thing for vintage Sheffield blades too, and have yet to find one that wasn't a great shaver. Happy hunting!
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
