The $&#^<> Jinx Razor aka "The Vampire"
Does anyone else have one of these razors. No matter what you do, it insists on drawing blood. Mine is a 13/16 muted square point Henckels that refuses to go back in the case without tasting blood.
I have re-honed it, sent it out to be honed, tried it with different creams/ soaps, different pre-shave preparations and even went so far as muting the tip of the square point. I have 14 razors in my rotation, including another Henckels and two (different brands) of 13/16 that I can shave with without any bloodletting. The only thing I haven't done is change the scales. I do not want to do this as the scales are original and give a classic look to an old razor.
Any suggestions?Last edited by Silents; 08-22-2012 at 03:00 PM. Reason: Auto corrected to a non sensical sentence.

Thanked: 334Learn to stitch yourself up.
OK, on a more serious note, maybe some garlic-scented soap and holy water.
Sorry! I couldn't resist!
Really serious this time. I PROMISE! Perhaps your shaving technique needs to be altered for this particular bloodletter. Go with shallower angles, MUCH shorter strokes (and I myself wipe off the blade after each pass so I can see precisely where the edge is for my next pass), and PATIENCE.

I'd analyze the cuts. I mean, is it nicking you the same place .... same way every time ? Since you have a large rotation, and I assume the experience .... since it has been honed and re-honed, I can't imagine why it would get you every time. If it is the same area where the nicks are occurring it may be a technique issue. Of course if that were the case it would seem you would also nick yourself with your other razors. It is an interesting problem.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who had a razor like that, though in my case it's not as bad. I almost never nick myself anymore, but when I do, it's more than likely to be with my 6/8 Wostenholm IXL. I've got a 7-day rotation going, so I use this one as often as the others, and it's not the only 6/8 or the only spike, so those things can't be the cause. I've just learned that on Wednesdays I have to shave more slowly and with much greater attention to where the point is than with the others. And to have the styptic pencil close at hand.

Thanks guys for the replies. I always use short shallow angles when I shave.its what I learned works best for the angles of my face. And no, it does not cut me in the same place every shave. Always different places, always different strokes (WTG and ATG) and it is everything from 'no feel ems' (don't know I cut myself until the blood starts to flow) to the 'oh damn' ( where you know instantly that the blood will flow.
I don't want to give up on this razor. First, it does leave me with a great shave. Second, it is a very gentlemanly looking razor. And third, I have a real stubborn streak in me.

It's really easy. The blade has whipped you and now you realize it is the boss so you allow it to control you.
At this point it's a head thing so you need to get the right perspective when using it.No matter how many men you kill you can't kill your successor-Emperor Nero

My wostenholm ixl cuts me every time.
No secret as to why. Its a big, heavy razor with a spike point.

Try lathering with holy water, sounds like one of the lesser imps or demons has taken possession of your razor.

My Red Imp seems to want to remove my left ear for some reason.
