Default Sweeney Todd Type Straight Razor YC116-RBV

    Greetings,
I saw this on an Ebay listing being sold by a company in Chigaco, and I wonder if you had any thoughts or insights into this. It may very well be made in China, but I'm attracted by the shape of the blade. Grateful for your advice.

    Welcome to SRP!

Stay clear, it will at the best work as a letter opener!

All these fancy "razorknives" you see on eBay and other places on the web these days are only suited as props, and are not make to actually shave.

Here's a list of razors to avoid: Brands of Straight Razors to avoid - Straight Razor Place Wiki

I think the only way you maybe could get a razor looking something similar that actually works would be to contact one of the custom makers.

If you're looking for a first razor you'll be much better of taking a look in the classifeds section here, if a razor is announced as shave ready in there it is very likely to be so

Don't even think about it! It's a decoration, not a real razor. Check the wiki for a list of reputable manufacturers and don't stray from it until your more experienced.

Even if that razor was top quality, a spike point like that would love to find my ear. I'm really wanting a French Point, but I have one in the works.

    Caveat Emptor.

This is one massive piece of junk.
I recently was sent one of those to hone... boy that thing is like a folding knife in size and weight not like a razor. Some razors are fancy in their looks but not exaggerated like this slab of steel. My advice is take a look at the classifieds and choose something simple to get into the hobby, there is plenty of fancy razors to buy later as you advance.

Somebody gave me one of those a couple of weeks ago. Not at all a razor, but it's still actually pretty cool. Big and heavy and just a little neat. Not something for any sort of actual use though.

Stefan , did you try to hone it ? the heel looks impossible & the steel is surely not viable. I use one in the dojo as a prop to give the students a reality check

Yeah! All that and the scales are too heavy to use!
