I have one of these and they shave pretty much the same as a normal straight without the stiffener. With the stiffener it is like a safety straight as it really won't let you go pass a point to do more then nick yourself. This comes in handy if you are in a little bit of a crunch in the morning. As to blades you need to look for hair shaper blades. Persona makes good ones and fromm does also.

Also the sextoblade is meant to be stropped like regular straights so you can keep these blades going for awhile before needing to change them. But of course you can use them till they dull and toss them.
