All I can say is you'll enjoy your first shave with that razor a lot more than any other! That's how it was with my great grandpappy's Morley & it wasn't even all that well honed at the time.

Know the feeling, I was on cloud 9 after I got this pair from my grandfather. Can't locate the pic of my great grandfathers razor but it shaves very well

Thanked: 0Congrats to you. I was lucky enough to get three of my grandfather's razors. They were all restored and I regularly shaved with them. I don't trust myself to hone them so they are with Lynn now getting the royal treatment. Ill learn to hone on a razor that has no sentimental value.
Enjoy!

Thanked: 247I am getting Grandpa's straight!!
I really hope I can get some good "after" photos...actually I REALLY hope the "before" photos look pretty good.
I will have to wait and see. My grand dad was an interesting sort. He had some nice things...but he may or may not have viewed a razor as an item to have taken pride in...or care of...time will tell and I am excited to learn the answers.

my grandpa thought the razor he gave me was nothing special didn't take care of it very well but its in excellent condition minor polishing need i find its also the most beautiful razor i've seen.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder after all. good luck

My grandmother gave me grandad's straight a few months before she died. Looked like hell but it cleaned up nice. Even have his barber hone box and all. Got photos of them somewhere.

I am so envious of you. I had to buy all my razors and not one of them a family heirloom. I do however plan to acquire enough razors to give at least one to each of my nephews and grandson.

Thanked: 247I am getting Grandpa's straight!!
It is here and my expectations are wildly exceeded. Please please please if anyone can tell me anything about these and the relative quality of them and possibly the age I would be very thankful. It is priceless to me so the only sense of value I am asking is, basically would you buy this as a user if you saw it for sale? No numbers please!
The shape of the blade is much to my liking and the sculpted tang feels exceptional in hand, the spike appears to not be muted at all and the edge looks like it needs a full honing.
Jimping on top but not on bottom of tang.
Tang reads: ELECTRIC
Etch reads: Electric
Obverse tang: ELECTRIC CUTLERY CO
NEW YORK
With arrows pointing in opposite directions between lines.
The slab is one piece faux bamboo, and the single pin has no washers but action is nice and firm. Blade is centered!
Patina with one rust spot on front face (probably will rub off with oily rag!!)
On with the photos!!!
