My main worry, and it seems to be unfounded (for the moment), is that the quality of the blade and its shave are less than the German counterpart of that particular model. However, on the other hand, considering how infrequently the "REG US PAT OFF" models are mentioned, I can't help but wonder how many of such models exist?
I don't think you need to worry about any quality difference. I have a couple of American made razors and they shave as well as the DDs.

Thank you, I appreciate the feedback.

(and I know all of my "american" models dont) This would explain why the american model would be cheaper, and suggests that they shipped the blades here to be scaled. Certainly a box of 100 blades would be cheaper to ship than a box of 100 complete razors. At the top of their game, they were probably moving enough razors to see big savings in doing that.
That seems fairly logical and makes sense to me. Oh well, time to take the plunge I suppose!

This advertisement claims Dubl Duck razor are made of Swedish steel, but for an American company, and truly made in Germany, or perhaps assembled in the USA?

Personally, I don't think DDs were ever assembled in the USA because it is so much easier for a strictly import company to deal with fully assembled products for distribution. Absolutely no proof for that POV unfortunately. I also think that the small differences in the DDs were the result of what was on hand and in style at the moment any particular order was filled by the manufacturer. Let alone that there is a possibility that over time various manufacturers won contracts to supply DDs to the importer. I don't think I have ever seen it stated anywhere with any authority who exactly did manufacture DDs for the importer.

There is certainly evidence that Puma made ducks!

OK, I stand corrected on that point, maybe. Could it be that Bresnick NY were the sole authourized importers for Puma to the USA for a period of time and had their brand stamped on them for the purpose of warranty work? It is not an unknown practice as I have seen cameras marked in some way for the purpose of weeding out grey market products from qualifying for warranty work. Not being contrary here, just saying that there might be other reasons for a Puma to be so marked. Any evidence that they were the sole suppliers for the entire length of time that DDs were imported?

I should add that by authouritative evidence I mean the likes of company records stating that orders were placed with a certain manufacturer or company records from a manufacturer that an order had been received and filled. Anything less would still have a degree of conjecture to it.
