Sure wish i could get a duck for 6 bucks!!! very cool
There is one thing that really jumped out at me in that ad
"Microscope Perfect Edge"
The Ads I have seen in the past for the DD's and many others say "Hair Tested" but the Microscope perfect edge is an interesting claim..
There was a time I actually did those tests on NOS razors that I happened to be lucky enough to score, I would take the razor, strop it in and test shave, as expected they shaved just fine..
I'm kind of intrigued about the Satinedge and Satinwedge having both German and American made models.
I have not Martin, but I have heard of it, and I have fixed a few that supposedly were, the blades looked un-used so I didn't really doubt the claim
Back in the old days if a razor you bought new didn't shave perfect out of the box that would be considered a manufacturers defect and most men would have returned it.
If you take a NOS piece that has sat for 50+years in it's case which is not really sealed (meaning air tight) and it's maybe in a hot humid environment I don't doubt the celluloid could deteriorate. Celluloid doesn't really need much of a reason to break-down.
Do you know the year?
Has anyone ever see one of the Satin Baby's ?
Sound as a dollar! Best money can buy!

What's the blade edge length on the Dwarf? Was it used for touchups around beards and mustaches?
Here a very cool looking dubl duck brush!

No, not quite. Pearlduck didn't come into existence until well after WWll probably 48 or 49 I'm thinking. Back in those days the average Joe probably earned around 4 grand a year. Of course in those days you could buy a new car for $1500.
Some of the early Bresnick marked models make no mention of where they were made and I suspect those are U.S made.
More interesting stuff from dubl duck!

Attachment 117446Attachment 117447I got one of those I think ? It has been used A LOT but still shaves very well.
Funny thing...... I noticed the (made in Germany) After I posted this.
I was tempted to buy some of these ads myself but thought naaaawww. Glad you posted them. My Goldedge PearlDuck is not on the ad and it's dimensions a little different also. It's round toe and 1/16 over 6/8

Not sure where to measure blade length but from the back of the stabilizer to the tip toe is 3 1/16 " .
I was a little surprised when I opened it. Condition and size.
This thread got me curious so I checked each of my two No.1 Special blades. One is marked Bresduck Double Duck Solingen Germany and the other is marked Pearlduck Double Duck REG.U.S.PAT.OFF. . Nowhere on the Pearlduck blade is the country of origin stamped. Interesting but both shave equally well.
Bob
I have a few of these and I have found them difficult to use. So long it's like they drag across your face to much. My hand is so far away from my face that making circle is tough. Painting is easy with them but then I miss the scrubbing part of it. I haven't given up on them just finding it hard to make one a regular.
Is it likely that the scales were of US manufacture, and the blades were all from one place? It would seem odd for a company to have disparate forges for one model, although I guess back in "those days" the $1 price difference could help offset such an arrangement?
I recently came upon a REG US PAT OFF Dubl and I've been pursuing as much knowledge as possible re: its origins. But unfortunately, this whole Made in America thing has thrown everyone for a loop :/.
Perhaps it was something like this: http://straightrazorpalace.com/razor...ce-razors.html
Very interesting! Would such a practice exist throughout Dubl Duck's history, particularly Pearlduck?
My main worry, and it seems to be unfounded (for the moment), is that the quality of the blade and its shave are less than the German counterpart of that particular model. However, on the other hand, considering how infrequently the "REG US PAT OFF" models are mentioned, I can't help but wonder how many of such models exist?
Only the Ducks know for sure! Nice Thread, Martin! I have seen hair dryers and brushes/combs and all sorts of things Dubl Duck. Certainly the name stood for quality. Everyone loves their ducks!
