    Default Gonna divorce my Dovo!

I just recieved the Geneva pyramid 23 I got off the bay. Looked it over, did the wet thumbnail test and thought it felt about the same as my new Dovo so I decided to strop and give it a try on my two day growth. Used the same shave prep as for the Dovo then went to town with the 23. Now the Dovo is a half hollow and the 23 is a full but both are 6/8 with the 23 being a tad lighter. First pass down my cheek I knew the shave was going to be better than the Dovo has been. Short story is the shave was alot closer with zero burn, and it mowed through the tough chin and jawline hair the Dovo has been struggling with since I got it. I doubt I'll buy a new razor anytime soon.

The obvious question (to me at least) is - was your Dovo honed when you got it or a factory edge?
If it was the factory edge it will need honing to get it to a shave ready state.
IME all new razors need to be honed properly to be shave ready
Hang on and enjoy the ride...

Sounds like the Dovo was never shave ready.

I had rather have a picture of a nice vintage Geneva than shave with a new Dovo! JMHO

I do not own a Dovo, but I'd have a hard time shunning any decent razor that just needs a good honing

I am definitely a fan of Geneva razors and have not met one yet that was not a decent shaver. On the other hand, the Dovo BQ 6/8 is a pretty fair shaver in it's own right. So.....you have been away for a couple years until recently and I would be interested to know more about the Dovo and it's use over the last couple years that you've been gone, but, well, not really.................so if you want, I'll hone it for you on me and you'll have two very nice shavers. Shoot me a PM.

    Have fun

Indeed guys get good shaves with the Dovos. I just like the old hand grinds.
Lynn is most generous when honing for us. He has probably honed more Dovos than anyone! Thanks, Lynn!

The Old US shavers are some of the best that were ever made without any question in my mind. Genco, Geneva, Cattaraugus, Waterville, Clauss, King, Winchester, Case, Torrey and on and on would be considered top notch shavers in any millennium.
