Looks like cell rot in the first set of pics. Might want to ditch those scales.

I agree that it looks like cell rot. If that is the case the scales are going to continue to rust the blade so they should be thrown out. Alot of Dubl Duck scales seem to have that problem. Rather sad too since I always like the look of those scales.

Son of a gun, i really liked these scales to,... cell rot is new to me, so your saying that the scales are causing the heavy corrosion on the blade in that area ?, i thought it was just put away wet and got caught in there, wow that is disheartening indeed

Thanked: 247Yeah, you need to ditch those scales pronto my friend. BUT, you CAN save all the little pretties on it. Check out some of the custom work around here. There's some pretty talented guys that can take all the appurtances off the old duck and make em fit like brand new on a different set of scales. I'm not yet one of those guys, but someday maybe. lol.

James bring that razor to my place and we will make short work of the razor clean up. We can remove the scales here with out issue as well. Then have Nate do the scales for you. PM me if this works for you.

so i took my rusty old rotted blade and with only these
i started attacking the blade, with the cheapo diamond cut "stones" i attacked it with the 180 and probably did to much but it had some mega chips that had to go things were not looking good at all
I showed the pick elsewhere and the reports coming in said RIP, so i went to town with the 320 cause at this point why not then the blade looked a little better
for giggles sake i ran it on my arm, it took some pressure but i ended up with a clear patch, so i dragged the edge on metal DMT thing, i dont really know what it is i borrowed all this stuff, then hit smore hairs, then i did that thing that i do where i do stuff and dont really think about it that works for me,... but dont do what syngent does and im not respsonsible for people who do what i do,...
i dragged it on the leather with the red stuff then the black stuff then my fabric on the strop, then the leather and said who cares,... i did a two pass shave, had a DFS result,... no nicks no weepers, have no irritation and should probably go get a tetanus shot tomorrow im not going to mess this blade up anymore then i have since i have the wrong tools and before tonight 0 experience lmao but i had some fun thats for sureJames -"I got into trouble once, and have remained there ever since"

If it was me, I would trace the scales for a pattern, remove the inlays with acetone, cut new scales from plexiglass, and put the inlays on the new scales.
Cell rot is a non reversable process where the celluloid decomposes and emits acidic gasses that cause the corrosion between the scales.
