Having restored one I can say this. The steel is harder than my head. Dig in for an all nighter of metal killing if you need to remove anything from this.
I used a 120 grit flap wheel on a 25000rpm dremel and removed most of what I needed. Still though trying to breadknife a bubble out of the blade was very hard.

Thanked: 22Fred
My first straight was a 5/8ths round point Kama "Extra", which I have since passed on to another beginning shaver. It was a good shaver and was easy to maintain. Get that Kama up and running - it will serve you well.

Thanked: 13245Here is one I just finished on Sunday

Great shaver, I mean exceptionally smooth...
I however did not have any problem honing it, but it had never been honed before so it was pretty easy...

Thanked: 156I sold a KAMA a while back. Beautiful blade and excellent shave. Didn't have to reset the bevel, so no info on how hard the steel is.
