Default W. Greaves & Son Barbers Use

got it in the mail today , very clean razor, a few scratches where mayb someone may have removed some surfface rust , a couple dings on top of the spine and only 2 tiny pit marks in the blade that i could sand out and prob will just cause i dont like the looks of the way who ever hit it with a low grit but thats for another day as i wanted to shave with it ... put some neets on the scales , a quick clean and an attempt on the hone , off to the strop , and off the bathroom i went .. this is by far the heaviest blade i have , just under 8/8 at widest spot and just feels like it weighs a ton but i have to say the look of this blade in the mirror gave me the feel that i have to have something bigger !! i felt like a manly man and can understand the big push and high dollar of the bigger blades !! i want more , and more , and more ...lol..

well the shave was ok , it needs a fine tune but i will wait to my hone skills improve but its not far off from where it needs to be , perhaps just even some more time on the strop but all in all im in love with this razor as is and cant wait to get it fine tuned !! ( i reshaved with my packwood and came out smoothhh so i know i honed that one ok ...lol so would this blade be in the 1817-1823 range because it isnt stamped " sheaf works " ??? o and also i love the way the tail fits my finger/fingers ...

Very nice razor. Greaves are awesome shavers. Just get it dialed in on the hone and it will be one of your better shavers.

Beautiful razor for sure but that said not from 1817-1823 more like 1840-1850, still a fantastic razor Enjoy!

    I'm thinking after 1850.

Still a great razor. My Greaves razors are super shavers.

o suuuurrrrreee just ruin it for me ...lol.. that is very interesting , in that article i noticed the T. Turton also got the trade mark.. but i read in another post on here ( i gotta find it ) that B.J. Eyre kept the cutlery part of the company , that is where part of my confusion stemed from production dates ..
i figured the shape and style of the blade and no abbreviated tail made it a newer razor then older
1816 "sons" joined in ( figured "sons' was added to tang from here on out )
1823 started sheaf works ( this is where i was confused thinking "sheaf works" would be on the tang )
1850 sold to B.J. Eyre ( i thought the tangs were stamped "late greaves & sons " after that
and yet you have enlightened me even more ...lol.. 3 things i would have never guessed about straight razor shaving are !!
1)it could be so much fun
2)i would/could have a near , around , or older then a 150yr old razor cutting whiskers off my face
    3) i could learn so much history in such a short period of time , there isnt many things you can own with that much age to it that you can use on a every day basis !!
thanks again for info and checking out the post !!

Dude I can't buy everything on ebay...I have rent and bills to pay just like everyone else..LMAO And if I would have gotten it I wouldn't have gotten to check out your tat....Yeah what do you do in the mean time while you're waiting for your hands to heal?

Cheetah is an equal opportunity guy but I love the submiminal ninjaism that I seem to posess over the larger razors on ebay. LOOK OUT cheetah is coming...lol

So while you got that one I got this.... and judging from what you decifered from Wullies post is it safe to say that since mine says sheaf works that it could be dated between 1823 - 1850? See we are Greaves Brothers from other mothers.
