    That 3m blue painters tape has a low tack variety that should work just fine. I've used it to mask over acrylic model paint and it doesn't pull that off. And that bond is tenuous at best.

    It may be a pain in the buttox but what if you cut a piece that was thin enough to miss the Gold yet cover the spines edge. Put the tape on glass and cut a strip. To much surgery ?

    I know I could do it if you just send it to ME I promise I will return it someday. probably
