Thanked: 20Just got these in today and I am wanting to ask someone here who may know how to HONE these particular blades. In closer observation it looks like just one side has been beveled and sharpened. The steel is a very high carbon steel and when I hit the handles together they make a pretty high pitch pinging sound,,kinda of when you look at those Kung Fu movies when they draw their Sumaria swords out to fight. Well anyway that's kinda what this type of steel is made of, any suggestions and advice would be appreciated, I have no idea what or how to hone these, thanks.

I've seen those before, they are used mostly for shaping eyebrows and areas behind the ears and neck. They will shave though, creative spine taping may be required.

Thanked: 20If I tape them(handles) they may not fit in the box. The box was made especially custom fit for these tools. Any advice on honing these? They are almost shave ready and don't think they need much.

The ones I saw and honed didn't have a pronounced Omote, it was almost flat necessating tape. One of them required two pieces.

Thanked: 20I went ahead and honed one of them, I started with a coticule and then went to a Thuringian hone. I must say these babes do take a very nice edge. I will do the the balsa and then strop and see what that does, who knows maybe will do my wife's brows and then top it off with a shave on myself tomorrow,LOL...

Thanked: 20Thanks for everybody's help, I am now shaving with one of the Kamisori's and I must say they sure give my Erik Anton Bergs and Wade Butchers a run for their money. Very happy with the shave I am getting from it and it was easier than I thought in honing this razor!

Just bought a "yama-dai" on the bay ("jappannippon")
He states it's a 17th century Tamahagane razor
