Thanked: 20Wow it's the same as the two that I have. Congrats on your purchase, they are great shavers. Thanks for the most valuable information and pics as well, have a blessed day and happy shaving, Rudy.

I might be mistaken, but I think that symbol means "Jin-dai" or medium grade. It may not be the brand, but the grade of steel/workmanship...like they do with sake.

Thanked: 44though it does look a bit like 人大, it is probably actually 山大 as the seller suggests. It was very common to stylize yama that way. I don't know the razor's actual origin but it clearly is seeking to look like a repurposed blade. Blade has machi for a habaki. I'd consider pulling the handle off and seeing if it's from a broken larger blade of some sort...a polish and etch could be interesting too if there's enough material for it.
EDIT: Actually looking at it again, it's probably not worth that much effort. The geometry makes it pretty clear that it's not a repurposed blade.Last edited by Tierdaen; 06-06-2013 at 12:09 PM.

Thanked: 20Like I said before"they are great shavers". If the blades were made of and for whatever the bottom line is "GREAT SHAVERS". I have to give credit where it is due, whoever made these knew what they were doing. They do serve my purpose and that's what it's all about.I want to thank everybody for all the good info and keep on trucking, it's a great hobby for me, looking forward to learn more about hones and razors, thanks, Rudy.

Some more information I gathered of the history of Orihi:
https://historyrazors.wordpress.com/...type-kamisori/
In the article, there is a picture of a Japanese woodblock print made in 1823 with such a wooden box!
Of course yours could be younger, or older...
