As some collectors never take anything out of the box I would put it back in there and go on pretending I still got a NOS razor in there!
I actually didn't know it was that aggressive, some spot yes but nothing like that, looks like it been dipped in HF.
I think I'll make some check ups on mine...

Nice razor proximus26. I would clean it, hone it, oil it. Are those chips or rusted out spots on the edge ? I am no cell rot expert by any means but it has to start somewhere. Being a Duck collector I take as many precautions as I can to save mine. Keep it dry as you can, out of the sunlight, and enjoy it.

Oldblades, now your going to have me waking in the night and checking on mine ! How long did it take to go from NOS to that though???
Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

    10Pups,

this are small chip which I have to remove. I have closely checked razor and looks like it is in very good shape. Not sure if this is NOS, but could be. Maybe was put back into box as brand new after someone made these chips and waited for me:-). I really don`t see any signs of honing on the blade.

I have a DD SatinWedge... near mint. And I recently pulled it out and discovered the first tell tale measle dots. I'm glad I caught it before it became like that one!

    So to be clear,

does all celluloid scales have the same behavior? What do you mean keep out of sunlight? Means sunlight is contributor to this mess?
I also have one DD Special #1 round point and looks like this one was eaither bad luck and was closed without wiping off or really got spots from scale. Interesting. I thought only scales color like my and from certain years could case this pitting but looks like not only.

Thank you for the link. Very interesting. With this "Sheffield steel" I also got this razor (attached pictures) however this need lot of work. Scale is very, very loose. It think it is not from this brand at all. Looks like this razor is also mentioned in link you have sent. Today I have learn few more things about razors.

Both razors are from the same Company, just different models. Your lucky to get 2 "Le Grelot" they are fantastic shavers. And about your very loose scales, if they are not cracked its a fairy easy process to fix. Here a video on tightening the hinge pin.

Those are probably original scales. But they have likely shrunk (as some celluloid scales will) I would rather shrinking scales than rotting scales!

I believe they are the originals too!
Then there is more than one type of celluloid... we should try get more info on how to check the different types and exactly how dangerous they are!
