Thanked: 0Otto Deutsch Fritz SR, help with info, cleaning
I picked this fellow up at a local antique shop. The translucent scales and condition of the blade were too much to pass up. The photos are as I found it.
I'm trying to find some information on it, just out of curiosity. I'm planning to hone it up and use it. I've found several references to the "Hans", but have not seen another Fritz around. I checked out the Bresduck, Inc. page in the database, and the 1930 Deutsch logo is similar, but not the same.
I read that the scales on the Ottos are delicate. What does that mean to me? Do I need to be more careful cleaning them, using them? How should I clean them?
Any info is appreciated! I can take more detailed photos of any part if anyone wants.
Thanks,
-Joe

I know nothing about the historical references regarding your razor, but I know a very nicely made razor when I see one, and that's a nicely made razor, and I bet it shaves like a dream, just a guess the blade is almost identical to my Dubl Duck Goldedge so there's a possible connection there.

Thanked: 480Hey Joe, that sure is a nice one! I know nothing about aht particular blade, but on many of the "Hans" razors, the green celluloid scales begin breaking down. They would often become brittle, and worse than that, they would cause the blade to rust.
Those scales look in great shape, and the blade (at least what I can see) does not look to be showing any spots yet.
Keep it away from water, and sunlight, the two biggest enemies of celluloid. That means DO NOT DRY IT ON THE WINDOW SILL! Wipe it down after each use, and allow to air dry away from sunlight.

I have a Hans, which has a blade that seems very similar to yours, and it is a hell of a razor! FWIW, the Hans has translucent scales like the Fritz--mine were warped when I got them, I straightened them out, and have had no problems with them in 3+ years. That's a nice find, hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine.

That is a very nice catch. I haven't seen to many of the Fritz ones. I own the one with the Otto Deutsch inlay/bolsters and translucent green scales which is an incredible shaver. I think the discoloration will buff right out. Try with some metal polish like Maas or whatever you might have at hand. Congrats and enjoy.
