Thanked: 5As others, I started off with a shavette with the opinion that it's a cheaper maintenance free way to see if I like a straight.
Ever since I picked up a 'real' straight my shavette hasn't been touched. In my experience the shavette is not forgiving in the slightest, a straight lets you get away with more; like if you slightly use too much pressure it won't paint the lather a nice shade of red.
They can get to some areas that a straight cannot, and slice through hair (and skin) like butter, but I don't know of any reason that I'd voluntarily use the shavette again
