    I'm sure PapaBull is right, but there's a very easy and accurate test. Tap it against your teeth. Celluloid and other plastics will sound and feel dull and flat and muted. Mother of pearl will sound and feel like glass.

    My wife taught me this as a way of testing whether buttons on a dress shirt are MOP. It works every time.

    Default MOP scales

    It's hard to tell in that pic but it looks like MOP because of the carving. MOP will be a hard material like a stone unlike Mother of tolit seat as we call it in the guitar world or the cracked ice plastic. When you tap on it you will be able to tell its hardess.

    Another way to tell if a button is MOP is to take a hammer to it.
