A new razor in my collection: Dovo 2Bismarck Pearl 6/8 Full Hollow, Round Point
Hello there Gentlemen,
last week I received this brand new razor as a gift. Although it has been honed by the seller - at least, I was told so - in my opinion he did not do a good job, however shaving quite well.
It is a Dovo 2Bismarck Pearl 6/8 Full Hollow, Round Point, belonging to the new "Bismarck era" after Dovo acquisition.
I must say, quality and shaving efficiency does not compare to the "old" Bismarck razors, however doing a very good job.
The first shave has been done with the original seller honing, it was quite good but not really nice, the second one after I personally honed it with a 8k Naniwa synthetic stone, Natural Chinese basalt stone, a good stropping with chromium oxide and a final stropping with a plain leather strop. Shaving was better, satisfactory for sure, however the old Bismarck is even better.
Any comment or feedback from other gentlemen using this very same razor?
I am also attaching some pictures of the razor:

I've been using mine for about two weeks. Really like it! I have the darker ebony scales but the business end is the same. I've never shaved with an old school Bismarck but would love to try it and compare.

Thanked: 13245These razors really shine on the shaving end with the full Naniwa treatment, at least that has been my expeirence and feedback, also really good feedback when finished on an Escher
Naniwa treatment for me is (1-3-5-8-10-12) but (1-3-8-12) or (1-5-8-12) should do just fine also this is just what I have found to work for me
Hope that gives you some ideas

Thank you for your reply. I started honing it with a 8K just because of the initial seller honing, not a bad job, but however not good.
The Chinese basalt stone, usually compared to a 12k grit, does a good job, at least to me and I can tell it improved the honing quite a lot.
What about shaving, compared to vintage Bismarck?

Thanked: 13245I have not shaved a Vintage Bizmarck in a few months, I have a FB era Dovo #25 personally which I really like..
These new Bizmarck2 and the Renaissance I personally love the feel of on my face..
This all might come down to individual faces and razors and finishers

Thanked: 4826I have the same razor and quite like it. It hasn't been in the rotation for a while because my RAD has been quite out of control. It will be back, I don't have a vintage Bismark though. HMMMM.

Thanked: 522I have two newer Bismarcks and two VINTAGE Bismarcks. I prefer the vintage models but the newer models shave well enough to suit me.

I do agree. The vintage Bismarck does a better job. However also the new one, properly honed, does a good job, although - in my opinion - not as good as the vintage one.
