Default Identification of models and names of razors?

Hi all, Newb here. I'm curious about the names and things inscribed on the blades of many razors. I have been reading this site for about a week which I found by accident (sort of- looking for WS DE blades introduced me to a world I had never known...) and there is a wealth of info here. I'm reading the library as I can and hoping not to repeat things already answered there completely.

Anyway, I've been seeing so many razors with names and things on the blades- were they special models, actually different than another very similar razor with a different inscription or simply for asthetic purposes?

For example, I got 2 off Ebay inexpenively (hoping the wife doesn't get too upset...). Useing some of what I gleaned reading here, one is a Wade Butcher, the other is a Clauss. The Clauss has "Craggs special" etched in the blade. Is that a specific model razor?
I've seen several Wade Butcher's listed also that have "The celebrated Barbor's Razor" or something silimar engraved in the blade as another example.
I'm not looking to start collecting, but I sure see how easily it could happen. Is there any easy resource for ID'ing them also?
    Thanks!
    Russ

Thanks Xman. I'm not sure if I am missing it, but I don't think that's exactly what I was looking for. I get the list of manufacturer's (another good resource), but is there more there I am missing? I don't find anything under their razor books. I guess I'm looking more for is the blade art for asthetic purposes or does it signify a specific model of razor.

Razors had all kinds of markings. They had numbers and they had names kind of like car models now but back then there were no consumer protection laws so manufacturers could put anything they wanted on any product. The particular numbers probably reflected differing sizes and decorations and maybe grinds in the razor lines like Double Duck with the special #1 or Goldedge or Satin Wedge. Some may have meant something and some meant nothing.

Thanks, that essentially answers the question.

I'll read through those articles next Xman.
