Thanked: 3164It could well be that old. Or it could be as old as the late 1920s early 1930s. The scales looked like horn to me at first glance, but I cant tell if it has some sort of design pressed into it or whether it is bug-eaten. Not even sure if it hasn't been re-pinned at some time.
I haven't come across any other info regarding G S Grant yet.
However, in 1892 the premises were occupied by Charles Taylor, a cutler and silversmith. He was sent to jail for three months for pawning watches that had been left with him for repair. It seems that during the time he was imprisoned his baby was christened, as only the mother is recorded at 56 Fishergate as her abode. In 1892/3 Taylor was on a list of bankrupts owing money.
So from 1893 to 1905 we have to fit in G. B. Read and his successor, G. S. Grant at those premises. That makes 1905 a good ball-park estimate of the first sale of this razor, although yours could be a later model.

Thanked: 0Thanks I'm impressed.that is very interesting. looking at the scales i think they are some sort of plastic, and have probably been repinned because they fit tightly.
