Since I don't use Jet Dry and living in a small duplex, I hone on the counter in the kitchen. When I'm almost done, I reach down, open the left hand door under the sinks and pull out the spray bottle...

It lessens the surface tension and thus allows the razor to 'glide' across the stone with less pressure.

Many years ago I'd tried 'Smith's Honing Solution' and it does about the same thing.

Have you ever given a natural hone a spray of Windex for your last few strokes? I usually do on my Zulu Grey and my Coti--It seems to help, but it could all be in my head.

Yes a bevel setter is quite nice. (green brick) but for those starting out with learning to hone there's nothing wrong with say a 'King 1K' they aren't very expensive and do a good job.

'IF' all you want to do is raise some slurry and aren't worried about flattening the hone, the DMT card size would work well and is a lot less expensive than a full size....
