you can go straight from the 8k norton to the DT and just use water 15-25 laps on water should be good. to the LM on just water 15-35 and on the WT with just water 15-25

well here is my new mystery hone from AJ its very hard for slate and its beautiful dark gray with black stripes just finished lapping it .

at the beginning of this thread we started with 50 strokes on water(with the LM) to make sure everyones honing from bevel set to the 8k was up to snuff. coming off the 8k 20 to 35 was great 50 for me...

lite slurry finish with no more then 15 laps on water see if that helps

you can use a slurry to replace a stone inbetween the 8k to the LM its no big deal the DT is nice tho

yeah there are alot of veriables what type of steel ,how good the bevel was set, how good the coti is, how good the LM is ,the honer ability 25-35 is dead on for me but it all just ballpark stuff...

i shaved straight off the LM and the shave was comfortable it was better the second time around when i added the strop to the process question did you smooth out your LM with the slurry stone after...

if you are coming from the coti to the LM do 25-35 on water

finished the DT hone show down ,i was really surprised at the I.J DT. the way my taped razor felt as if i was honing with oil. its a very hard and slick feeling hone it provided a sharper edge then...

if i where you use water ,first come off the 8k to the Lm use a slurry diluted with water until there is a small amount left wash the stone off and give it 10-12 laps on just water only the LM gives...

sewing machine oil dans whetstone oil and buck oil is some of the thinest oils i have come across.

im working on a W.H.Morley & Sons razor for the two DT hone test with the spine taped. this razor has a lovely patina of gray on it.

a lite slurry should dail down the sharpness and increase the comfort !

yeah mine looked like it was ran on a sanding belt . so in our testing of this stone we lapped it with the dmt 325 and then used the slurry stone to remove the dmt scratchs ,and very smooth result on...

so all in all we haven't used the stone to its fullest potential after i put my two DT head to head i'm going to come off my sgs16k to the LM

yes your right rene oil would give a little more and stropping. i was shaving straight off the stone. so in my opinion the stone was worth every penny

shaved with the LM last night very smooth shave that stone provides alot of comfort. i would guesstimate the grit at 12+ and thats going off the sharpness. so it is some where inbetween 12k to 15k...
