None of mine have milling marks,some are well over 100 yrs old,they were sanded with rotory sanders and slurrys when orig. made
Over many yrs of use they become smooth as glass,all great stuff.

Serously doubt that any milling was done to the older stuff,just better castings.
If you have ever Milled or turned cast iron you will undrestand why.

Cast iron is cast Iron,The old stuff is nice because it has been used,some for a century or more,well worn, well seasoned to the core.
Even the new lodge stuff,given time and alot of use will come...

After a 100 yrs of use,it will be smooth all over:)

Use it alot,is sort of an aging process,clean it with nothing more than hot water and a brush,takes time.

Not cast Iron but I treat it the same,no soap,We stir fry alot, wok is about 40 yrs old and tottaly non stick,BBS smooth carbon steel.

Okay,all this cast Iron talk got the juices flowing,Got out the old Ribbed Pan,season it with some bacon grease and maldive salt.
Got the propane one burner out,(gotta do this outside) Get the pan...

Dunno about the salt,thats the way my granpa did it:)

Amazing thing about cast Iron is, once they are well seasoned they are every bit as non-stick as teflon pans.
Some I have had for 40 yrs,they never have been cleaned with dishsoap,no need to do so.

Fantastic,how did you season it? I use lard and a layer of salt,300deg oven for several hrs.

Absolutley,Iron deficiency anemia was unkown when all people used was cast Iron and steel utensils.
