Actually you can make the leather Extreamly taught so flatness is not an issue.
Had a piece of Bullhide shell laying around so I made another,stropping surface is about 14 long X 3in.
.145 thick...

Thanks all,was not that difficult to make,just took a bit of thought,lot of fun.

So I made one to my specs,Found a source for 2x48 continuous tanned and finished steerhide,(they also carry 72 in.) are for some sort of Knife sharpening machine.
Wanted it 24 long so this worked...
