I knocked off the superficial corrosion to see what is really going on. It didn't really did not do any damage to the faces of the blade. The top of the spine got the worst of it.

This one doesn't have horrible balance. Slightly biased forward, but not too bad at all. I find balance and a generous tail are the keys with large blades, in general.

I think maybe guys got too aggressive in restoration stage perhaps and screwed up their steel. Those guys were masters. Even cast steel from the 1790s that is way soft holds pat for awhile.
