Thanked: 169Estate auction. I had fair warning so I dumped off a bunch of pieces where I knew I'd win because I could go to the limit where the $ wouldn't make sense beyond unless you were keeping it forever and a lot of those guys are dealers buying flip stock. They traded shots for awhile but ended up cowering like they always do...

Thanked: 884That beast has been a thousand miles up and down a hone judging by the spine wear and it's still a big as a barn!

Thanked: 169I hear you, but the scales need to come off in order to be properly preserved so they last and it would be asinine to not top off the blade's condition as well. It would be like pulling the engine from a manual car that hasn't been serviced in forever to repair something else and not bothering to change the clutch because it has some lifespan left. It's just my opinion on blades that are nice and need at least one major thing done.

Thanked: 169Mycarver was available for resto work with a surprisingly short turnaround and the stuff others have done by him, much like Glen's stuff is consistently beautiful so I sent it his way in the interests of expediting all of the restoration projects I have. Mark did an amazing job. My only real restoration directive was a period correct resto in the sense that I wanted it to be as close to how it originally would have been from Joseph Rodgers as possible. Unfortunately, the original scales had some pretty bad issues once the pressure of the pins were off and had to be replaced, but he duplicated them exactly. No issues with taking an edge. Big restored razor shock and awe photos!

Thanked: 169It's quite consistent in the wear department which is great. I've had some Sheffield razors with crazy hone wear patterns.

Thanked: 169I am going to have Glen work on this. I already have a massive Wostenholm at his workshop that is close to its turn in the resto queue, so when that is done, I'll throw more work on his pile. I am capable of restos by hand, but it is tricky to achieve a consistent result without the benefits of a proper workshop and blades like those demand that level of attention.
