The 8K can be dialed in pretty nicely with either one or two 1-3,1-5's using the 4K/8K pyramid finish or even just 3-5 no pressure X strokes one or two times.

I'm not so sure that killing the edge is all that important. Effectively, once you start to re-hone on the 4K, you are starting over on that edge.
