Jamie, I was intrigued by this razor when I saw it on French eBay recently because, as RMarsh points out, Opinel today is a household name in France and Belgium for value folders.

It also looked like a lot of work had gone into the old blade with all the different facets. It was nearly black but cleaned up nicely.

Keith, thanks for showing Lotse's blade which I missed - his has the same logo style as mine which according to a French forum colleague dates it to pre-1904....that's all I know at this point but I'm off to read more!

A fine shave to finish off 2013. Have a great evening with buck-loads of fireworks tonight and be careful when you do light those firecrackers. See you fine gents in the new year!

    Tuesday (New Year’s Eve)

    Razor | Jernbolaget | Superlather | Mike’s Natural Pine and Cedarwood/Tabac cream | Prep | Proraso pre/post cream | After Shave | Tabac

A nice relaxing bedroom shave today at my shaving stand. It’s a warmish 34 degrees here this afternoon. I spent the morning at the gym and the afternoon trimming the hedge; looks good, doesn’t it?

I hope you all have a good, healthy and happy new year. I’ll be having a quiet night tonight with my wife and younger son; I’ll probably be in bed by 8:30…

Beautiful Christmas Gifts you got yourself there . The H.Diamond straights are great shavers. I think there was another one as well earlier being mentioned in a SOTD this week.

And looking at Magnus' SOTD post, incidentally the TOWA's are made by the same folks.

Magnus, great photo, I love the razor and the whisky. I've got both at home as well. As you've said: Kanpai!

My own shave on this Tuesday consisted of:

Size: 51.9 KB

    LOGONA mann shave cream
Mühle STF 21mm travel brush in Nickel
7/8" Koraat Tantalum allyed caststeel Wedge, Desert Ironwood scales
    Bloc Osma alum
    LOGONA mann after shave

A nice 2-pass shave to inaugurate this beautiful razor, my first with a curved blade.

Wishing all of you a happy New Year!

Yeah, I've lusted after Lotse's Opinel in the past. They seem pretty rare. Once I considered honing an Opinel knife to shave with, I guess you'd need a way to make a bevel, maybe a few layers of tape? Or a frame from a frameback razor?
