John Heifor "for the army" 6/8 wedge
    B&B Finest
    Trumper Rose
    Body Shop Tea Tree toner
    Will G's Sandalwood ASB

This is my first shave with this razor - another $5 e-bay special that I had reground and cleaned by Joe C. This is a medium weight wedge with horn scales that cleaned up pretty well. While not quite as good a shave as with my W&B or Rogers wedges, I can't complain for the price (about $50 including the razor, regrinding, honing, refurbishing and shipping). I'm really enjoying the wedge razors I have - I like them more than the 1/2 and 1/4 hollows for some reason.

The Will G's Sandalwood ASB is one of my favourite ASB's and I use it very sparingly - no burn, good skin conditioning and a great scent - I have about 1/2 a bottle left and am already looking for a replacement sandalwood ASB.

Will G was before my time here / B&B, unfortunately - but I keep hearing how great his produts were... Lucky you

I am interested - are you saying that you are using true wedges now and prefer them to 1/4 hollows (the latter being so close to wedges)?

    Cheers

To be honest, I only have one 1/4 wedge (the Otto Hess razor that Randy sold) and I like it very much, but to answer your question, I prefer my full wedge razors to my 1/4 hollow and the several 1/2 hollows I own.

I think a full wedge shaves a little differently than even a 1/4 wedge, but that's obviously subjective.

The one thing with the full wedges - especially the heavier ones - is that they are very stiff and I find that I get the best results with a light touch - otherwise wedge burn can become a problem.

This being said, I have lots of full hollows that I really like as well 7/8 Fridour, 7/8 Wacker/Bartman (I actually like mine!), 6/8 TI Sheffield Steel - however, with the exception of the TI, I tend to prefer full hollows that are on the stiff side. I have some flexier blades as well, but seem to gravitate to full hollows over 6/8 and heavier grinds.

Also experienced some difference myself - more "suction" on the face, and this seemed to cause a bit of irritation in a couple of spots, if touch isn't very light, as you say.

I seem to get all the stiffness I may ever need in 1/2 and 1/4 grinds and framebacks and even full hollows work well (but this is personal, of course)

    Cheers

Nicked myself near the sideburn. Minor, stopped bleeding during the shave but annoying nonetheless.

    Filarmonica doble temple 7/8
    Proraso preshave cream
    Williams soap
    Proraso Balm

Oh and I turned the ceiling fan on, I love the feel of the air on my face after I finish, makes me realize I need to shave earlier so I can spend a few minutes outside after a shave.
