    Wed:

    Rooney small style 1 brush
    Gold-Dachs Spezial soap
    5/8 Koeller spike
    Bergischer Lowe
    Harris face milk

Another honing experiment gone awry, so I had to finish up with the BL. Got a VG shave anyway.

    Default A Real Breakthrough...

I recieved a couple of "shave ready" razors in the mail today and was anxious to try them out: a Henckels, #401, and a Genco,"Easy-Aces". I stroped the Hinckels 60 times(I am confident on my stroping skills, even though I am new to wet str8 razor shaving) on my new "Tony Miller" 2 sided paddle. It just didn't feel right , but I do not have a heavy beard and decided to try it anyway. This was a great experience for me! It went as follows:

Hot shower with a Bay Rum shaving soap, that dried out while shaving, but it makes a great shower soap(hint!).
Proraso pre-shave crm with hot towel.
    Colleen's "Provence" Lavender SC
    Silver tip badger
    Henckels 401
The 1st WTG pass seemed to leave an unusual amount of stubble; I thought it would pick it up on the next XTG. As I started the 2nd pass, I am noticing it just isn't cutting. What to do? This isn't working! I have three choices: The Feather DE, The Feather str8, or my "Beau Brummel". It's the Beau Brummel! I strop 60 times on the leather side and itt feels good! I proceed to do the shave over. Colleen's soap is still creamy and rich(good on her!). The shave is beautiful! I have been finishing all my shaves with the DE, and as I progress in my shaving skills, my goal has been to complete a wonderful BBS shave with only the str8 razor. Today it happened. No DE, and the shave is the best, yet!!!! Yes, I am disapponted in the Henckels. I have a barber's stone and the other side of my paddle is impregnated with .5 chromium oxide. I might mess around with it and see what I can do.

NOTE: I shaved Commando! It's funny; when I first started reading some of RichZ's threads, I thought Commando was something like shaving dry with a Bowie knife, just like Gary Cooper did in "Disatant Drums". Yes, I finialy figured it out!

    Thanks for listening...

Good shave today. Had ~36 hours of stubble going in.

    Dovo 5/8
    Barbus soap
    Burma Shave brush
    WTG & ATG passes

My Dovo 5/8 from Tony is still the champ of the group. It "finds" the whiskers better than the rest, letting me use very little pressure. To boot, I don't think XTG passes accomplish much for me, besides removing skin, so my face ended up really smooth with the least amount of irritation yet!

    Thu:

    Rooney small style 1 brush
    Gold-Dachs Spezial soap
    Hand American strop
    5/8 Koeller spike
    Pinaud Clubman A/S

Following yesterday's honing experiment disaster I took this razor back to the Shaptons last night. Seems to have worked; I got an excellent shave this morning.
