How do you like that strop? Is it plain leather on both sides, or is one side pasted? I'm in the market for another travel strop

I am still VERY new to this, but today was the BEST shave of my life...period! I just got home from a 5 day backpacking trip, which means I haven't shaved in 8 days. 8 days to me is a beard, and mine is heavy. I was very nervous about trying to shave through this type of growth, but my goodness, that beat the crap out of any disposable razor I have ever owned. Not to mention, I tried the Vanilla Shave Milk from The Shave Den, and am in Heaven. What a terrific way to start my day!

I am not much of an artist, and had already cleaned up my lather mug when I decided to document this day with a photo.

This is the day that the disposable razor died.

    Prep - Extra hot shower

Razor - Imit. Tortoise Dovo Special
    Strop - Illinois Imperial Russian
    Brush - Kent Pure Bristle
Soap - Caswell-Massey Shave Soap in Wooden Bowl
Lather - C.O. Bigelow, Glycerin, TSD Bourbon Vanilla
Aftershave - TSD Vanilla Shave Milk
Damage Control - NOTHING, no nicks at all today!

The paddle strop has Russian leather (Juchtenleder) on one side and slate on the other. The slate plate looks and feels like my Chinese 12k.
The paddle strop takes up some space but works well for travelling. I’m glad I bought it before Böker’s latest price increase. I'm going to miss my Tony Miller Heirloom tri-strop though but it is not in the same class as that.

Thanks. Quite a shaver too. Between Joe's restoration and former owner Josh Earl (thanks, Josh!), the razor's gone through a few of the most capable hands. I was lucky to have had the opportunity to grab it.
