Post Week of October 10 SOTD - Sunday

    S3 (Special Sunday Shave)

    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
    Pre-Shave Oil: Truffit & Hill
Razor: 7/8" Wade & Butcher Frameback, Wedge, Barber's Notch/Spanish Point, Dark Gray Horn tapered with Bloody Red Jasper recon stone
    Brush: 23mm Shavemac Silvertip Badger
Überlather: CarrieM "Dragon's Blood" Shave Creme + Proraso Shave Soap+ Glycerin
Astringent: Thayer's Witch hazel (Lavender, no alcohol)
    Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer
After Shave Splash: Floïd Spanish Blue
Result: I am deeply honored by Max' gesture to start his SOTD for this week with a Tabac theme (and promise that I will get some real soon...I did love the smell - very, very clean). So, in order to reciprocate and honor Max' generous gesture, today's shave is with a very special razor; the W&B Frameback (a masterpiece I got from Max)...My wife and I had the distinct pleasure of visiting Max and family when in Vegas and while there, he managed to show me his incredible collection of blades and this beautiful frameback...as soon as I saw it, I had to have it. And my gut/conscience was right...this was one of my BEST razor purchases to date. It's definitely a keeper for a very, very long time...I am not much for horn scales, but the ones on this beauty converge seamlessly with the bloody red jasper wedge to uniformly blend together form and function and expose the mystical allure hidden in the blade. This gorgeous work of art combined with CarrieM's creme and some Proraso/Glycerin mix was a perfect recipe for a heavenly shave. I am very hard pressed to come up with a more fitting descriptive than "Nirvana" to portray this experience.

I have permission from Max to post a photo of us together during our visit (although he made me promise that it would not be a large image and only a thumbnail ...so, I Photoshop-framed it around the theme for today). The good looking one in this picture is Max. Also, although it may not show very clearly in the picture, the white mat underneath the gear is a place mat that Max and his wife graciously gifted us. My wife and I use them and love them...My wife and I extend our deepest appreciation for you and your wife's hospitality and generosity and for opening your home to us. Please say hello to Vivi as well (my wife and I both seemed to have fallen in love the moment we laid eyes on her )

**Warning: If anyone wishes to visit Max, be warned...you will end up wanting to buy everything he's got or will have in the future. Leave your credit cards at home. it can be hazardous to your wallets

Have a Wonderful Sunday gentlemen (and ladies) .

    Default SUNDAY MORNING SHAVE

PREP: Hot shower with face scrub
    RAZOR: C-MON HF
    BRUSH: Custom Nib
SOAP: Castle Forbes "Cedarwood and Sandalwood"
    ASTRINGENT: Thayers Superhazel

    RESULT: GREAT SHAVE TODAY

Love this razor, its been a top contender in my rotation since the day i got it and it never lets me down. The CF cream is among the best creams I have used and the smell(at least for me) is sooo nice. It reminds me when i go to beach bonfires and come home my clothes smell of the wood, ashes and the ocean. Very nostalgic and relaxing. Great Shave today BBS all the way!

    SOTD Sunday October 10, 2010

Razor: 5/8 Torrey, Full Hollow, Round Point
Coffee: Steve's Home Roasted Tanzanian - Latte'
    Pre-Shave: Proraso Crema Pre Barba
    Shave Soap/Mug: Mitchell's Wool Fat
    Scuttle: RAB Ceramic
    Brush: Semogue Boar 1460
    ASB: Nivea Replenishing
    Aftershave: Aqua Velva Musk
Results: Very Good. However, I will probably take the little Torrey back to the 8K and finish again on the C12K. It's just not quite there yet. This was an E-Bay find and needed some pretty heavy clean-up and resetting the bevel. I was in a hurry and probably shorted the process. The edge is good but "no cigar" so to speak!

Comments: I had the pleasure to have Robert and his wife in my house last week and after the grand tour I had Robert take a whiff at my Tabac bowl since he had no clue what it smelled like. He was pleasantly surprised by the scent. So just to remind him to order some I decided to go the Tabac route for my sotd. I love Tabac. Always have and always will. It's been around since my child hood. I remember as a kid going to the barber and getting treated to the hair tonic. The scent was all over the place. I even remember the huge Tabac bottle hanging outside the barber shop which was lit at night. I have to admit that the old vintage formulation was way better. I still have a small amount that I try to cherish for as long as I can.
Wishing everybody a great week and happy Columbus day.
Beautiful razor, pistol, & overall photo composition Max! Have a great week.
