    Default SOTD 10-11-10

    Prep: Hot towell
Strop: SRD Premium IV, English Bridle 25 webbing/ 50 leather
    Scuttle: SRD
    Cream: Alraz's Da' Bomb "Calypso"
Brush: TGN Premium Silvertip in handle I turned in Cherry
Razor: Kobar "Souvenir of stuttgart" 5/8 in custom Birdseye maple scales
    After Shave: Masters Bayrum
Result: This is the second of the 5 razors in a set I restored recently. 3 passes today: wtg, xtg, wtg. Very smooth. I'm learning to Scythe and I got a small slice this morning, but it didn't bleed (I guess that means I'm not using too much pressure, ha,ha).

The SOTD's are already looking amazing this week guys, keep them coming & have a great week!

This weekend, I took the Fili back to my JNats to see if I couldn't improve the edge a bit from my first attempt honing this blade. It didn't seem to want to cut the beard at first. I couldn't tell if it was just tugging or what the problem was with the edge. In the end, I did two passes plus touch up and wound up with an incredibly smooth BBS and no razor burn. That said, I wasn't a big fan of the edge I got.

Under my microscospe, the edge is a smooth, hazy finish like I think I'm supposed to get, but then again, I don't know what I don't know about honing! I'm thinking I may have to step back down my hone progression and rework the edge a bit more at the lower grits...

This blade has always treated me good, even though itīs a silver steel blade. Ohh,, and a pic that made me laugh, Neil Millers edges surely makes my life easier . Tomorrow Iīll have a Turkish shave ...
That is too funny...Enjoy your Turkish shave and do let us know how it was like.

    Default my SOTD

Okay I used a brand new (to me) puma from holi4pirating. I ran it over some CrOx then CeOx just to make it mine, it did not need it but I cannot shave with a razor without putting something into it. It was what I consider NOS though it does have some water stains and light pitting along with a little bit of red rust on the back, hopefully I will address this in the future. Any way this was my set up:

strop: illonois linen, SRP webbed fabric, illonios russian leather, SRP Premium IV

Pre-shave: hot towel with several reapplications,... 'The Bomb' Calypso pre shave oil

Shave: 'The bomb" Calypso shaving cream, Thater brush, random antique store mug(10 cents), High Class Puma with faux (sounds better than fake) tourtise shell scales.

Post shave: sample 'The bomb' calypso ASB, followed by Ogallgha bay rum after shave.

I do not know if it was the razr or what but i seriously think this may have been the closest shave I have ever had. big thanks to Dylan and Puma for making it possible along with Al's "the Bomb."

Please forgive the picture quality they were taking with an iphone and a flashlight . eventually I will get a camera up and running.
