Glenn, sounds like you're getting along well with the honing. That Bomb sounds divine! The guys in your family are very lucky, those are some great looking handles. Can't wait to see the finished products!

    Default SATURDAY MORNING SHAVE

PREP: Hot shower with hot towels
    RAZOR: Dovo 5/8 special
    BRUSH: Simpson POLO 10
    SOAP: EJ sandalwood cream
    ASTRINGENT: Thayers WH
    ASB: Trumpers Skinfood
    EDT: Elizabeth Arden "sandalwood"
    RESULT: RELAXED AND REJUVENATED

So as some of you may know i work in retail, at one of the busiest outlet malls near los angeles (to the point where they shuttle people off of LAX straight to the outlet) so this Black Friday was my D-day. I worked from 10pm thanksgiving night to 10am black friday, and came back at 4pm to 12am Friday.
So i was in dire need of a shave and it just so happens my package from RayG came. My POLO 10 and he threw in a sample of EJ sandalwood(thanks RAY !) which I had been dying to use Well this cream and brush are both amazing!!! Love the smell, and the feel of this POLO is some of the softest tips I have ever felt on a Simpson brush before. Needless to say it was an amazing shave, and it really revived/recharged me which among many things the mach 3 never did...

HOPE EVERYONE HAD A GREAT HOLIDAY !!!!!!

ps maybe with my overtime/holiday check i can finally buy a Filli ... or a Kami...... or one of Max's DublDucks....ahhh too many choices

Post Week of November 21 SOTD - Saturday

    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
Razor: 6/8" Hanamasa Kamisori, with a "mean" Spike Point
Brush: 22mm new Forest Silvertip Badger
Überlather: Floris "JF" Shave Soap + Glycerin
Astringent: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol)
    Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-Free Moisturizer
After Shave Splash: Floïd Italian Amber
Result: Today's shave is a culmination of several months of analysis and assessment. For a good while now, I'd been contemplating learning the art of shaving with a traditional Japanese Kamisori. Well, today was that day and the experience flooded my mind with memories of days when I was learning the art of wet shaving...similar emotions (anxiety, anxiousness, excitement, etc) came pumping through my veins all over again. I bought this Hanamasa from Telly on B&B a few days ago and learned the ins-and-outs (e.g., shaving, honing, stropping) of using it using YouTube tutorials by JimR and others. Even though it was shave ready, I felt that her edge wasn't quite there...so, she went to the hones (Coti followed by JNat). Phewwwww!! very sharp. I prepped my beard with the Floris "JF", which produced the wonderfully rich and luxurious lather I have come to expect from this soap. Shaving with the Kamisori is a bit different than western style straights and needs to be mastered rather carefully and skillfully. The blade is much smaller/shorter than what I am used to. This beauty's tip was so incredibly sharp (just look at that tip) that she managed to dig into my cheek without me even realizing it until I was almost done with my pass. The shaving is usually done with the Ura side (with the marks/lettering) away from your face and unless you are being shaved by someone else, you quickly realize that maintaining the proper one-sided, self-shaving form, while maintaining the WTG, XTG or ATG posture per pass, is humanly unsustainable...as such, both sides of the blade will need to be used, at least by most near mortals. At the end, I was rewarded with a near-BBS shave, but with some (very) minor irritation, which for me is indicative of (a) my lack of mastery of this new technique/blade, and (b) my skin needing some adjustment period. I remember the same exact experience(s) when switching from cartridge to DE to straight razors. With the addition of this new technique and tool into my shaving arsenal, I feel a sense of accomplishment and commitment that is a nostalgic reminder of the days of old (which is not really that long ago ).

Yet another beautiful blade Mikael . Everlasting is an appropriate name for it too. That's great about the creme...the fact that it hasn't gone bad after all this time is testament to its quality. May it provide you with great lathers for months to come.

    (1) Great brush handles buddy. You are quite the artist.
    (2) Bay is not my favorite scent, but this one looks very interesting. I am deep into spicy scents

Enjoy your creme...Al's cremes have definitely soiled us and push the envelop on quality.

3 days? wowww...you certainly have more will power than I do Rene . The Wacker + CarrieM/MWF was a good choice. CarrieM + MWF combo provides for a very very good lather.

    Nice Brush Matt

Wowww...10PM to 10AM at work?? You deserve a medal my friend. Ahhhh...the virtues of being young. I could probably pull it in my younger days, but not now.

Well, now you can spend that overtime $$ on something nice for yourself.
