Post Week of May 8 SOTD - Saturday

    Pre-Shave: Hot shower
Brush: 24mm Shavemac D01 Silvertip Badger
Maxterpiece: 7/8" P. Hospital Le Grelot #14, 3/4 Hollow Ground, Round Point (Butterscotch Micarta scales)
Strop: 45/55 laps (Neil Miller linen / SRD Premium IV leather)
Lather: Bath House "Spanish Fig & Nutmeg" Shave Soap + Glycerin
Toner: Thayer's Witch Hazel (Rose Petal, no alcohol)
    Moisturizer: Trumper's Fragrance-free Moisturizer
After Shave Splash: Floïd Italian Blue AS
After Shave Balm: Bath House "Spanish Fig & Nutmeg" ASB
Cologne: Bath House "Spanish Fig & Nutmeg" EdC
Results: I almost always test my soaps/cremes alone without uber-ing them to get a feel for what I have and judge the true performance of a soap/creme. For some reason, I hadn't done this with this soap. So today, I remedied this slight oversight. The soap smells truly divine . She's packed with Intoxicating spicy notes of Spanish fig, nutmeg and clove resting on a base of sandalwood, cedar and exotic patchouli. The performance is equally excellent . I would say 8.5 or 9 on a scale of 1-10 (10 being best). A few drops of glycerin were added to dial down the moisture. The SM D01 really whipped a wonderful lather out of this soap, which the Le Grelot was all to happy to take a spin in. She returned the favor in kind by rewarding me with an exceptionally heavenly shave.

No shave tomorrow...wife and I are off to Vegas for some R&R we both need and of course what kind of trip will Vegas be without seeing Max? It's like a tired camel going to the pond and coming back thirsty. Seeing and spending some quality time with Max & family will be one of the main highlights of this visit. I only plan on taking my DE, Vulfix brush and the Ogallala Bay Rum stick SS Rene gifted me awhile back. I may fit in one shave on Monday.

    Have a FANTASTIC Saturday gentlemen.

Well done Birnando. What a nice choice of gear this AM too. Great honing regimen too. I think I should be using my AdP one of these days.

Are you serious? One look and you folded?? Today was the kind of day for a very special shave. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do..regardless of "the look", LOL

    Grant,
What an awesome heirloom. My grandfather was heavy into traditional stuff. I was too young to understand it at the time and my dad was never one to care for these things. I wished that I had owned some of my grandpa's gear. As I understand it, he had some very nice pieces.

What a gorgeous shot. Masterfully done. An exceptional choice in hardware/software too.

    First Test shave with the

Da Razor: Cleaning-The DD came in today in the mail, I was waiting with much anticipation; I knew that there was a lot of work to be done to this razor so I set out early to clean it up. It was cruddy; so I took the Dremmel and some Flitz and plenty of rags...two hours later it was a different razor, even Mrs HOG was impressed. Cleaned the scales even the inside of the scales were full of muck.

Honing da razor: Well, it was received dirty and dull. For this job I selected the two coticules I own, one of these is more aggresive than the other and since I don't know if they had a noble birth (the vein they were mined) I called them the Arrogant Bastards. I set the bevel with the more aggressive of the two raising slurry, did not count laps; I proceeded to tape the spine and raised more slurry on the aggresive bastard ...lots more x strokes and looking at the bevel under light, then I switched to the more gentle coticule with water only and polished the edge.

Test shave: I almost took my nose off. Just kidding! I had a wonderful smooth shave, no nicks or razor burn...happy, happy HOG.

    Da Brush: Semogue hogs hair
Da Soap: Nomad in shaving mug
    Da Aftershave: Spanish Floid Suave.

    SHAVE ON BOYS! HOG
