The R41 is the most aggressive DE razor I've used. It's incredibly effecient; two passes does the trick for me. I've used it with a Personna Red and
an Iridium-the Iridium did a better job so it will be a Feather next time. The R41 is more aggressive IMHO than the Gem Micromatic OC-SE.

Got a balsa strop in the mail today. Packed badly , so it was broken in half, but one part was still usable. It really did the trick, a fine edge became even better...

    Robert,

It has to be a very hard work to comment each post. Thanks to you for doing it everyday.

On the other hand, I want to congratulate you for a nice and clean picture (with a stunning straight razor that were produced, years ago, at about 50 miles from my home).

    Default July 18 SOTD

Continuing my adventure in honing and novel (to me... for the moment) widths I took up my Wester Bros White Eagle 4/8 Manganese Steel razor this AM...

    Prep: hot shower
    Soap: Classic Shaving Lime
    Strop(s): CrOx Pressed wool (SRD) x 20, Webbing x 30 and Latigo (CS) x 50
    Brush: Con. Conk Pure Bristle
Razor: Wester Bros White Eagle 4/8 Manganese Steel
    Post: Witch Hazel

Well... the result was a not too pleasant of a shave. I found, while sharp, the razor just didn't feel like it wanted to tackle my beard and thus required 2 passes and some touching up in the more bristlely spots. I think the heavier blades have a better feel than this little guy, but I won't give up yet. I think I just need to work the angles a bit better and accept that the weight of the blade is not going to help me get through the tough spots.

The CS soap also has now totally lost my interest (thanks Fitjar )), the lather was good and thick but under the razor it felt sticky and didn't have the cushion I have become accustom to. The brush was also a first time use (was tossed in with a lot of ebay razors) and shed bristles but managed to pulled the best out of the soap.

Topping things off Saturday's hair cut is a fail I thought maybe I was developing a bald spot that required longer hair for additional coverage, but after a quick check I am sure that the barber did miss a spot, and I'm still sporting full coverage.

At least if I get all the mediocrity and frustration out of the way today the rest of the week has no choice but to be an improvement.

To the rest of the week gentlemen, I look forward more of your great SOTD posts.
