Thanked: 346Tuesday
Rooney small style 1
Harris Arlington soap
Illinois strop
6/8 Engstrom frameback
Harris face milk
Truefitt & Hill 1805
... and a splash of diesel.
The Engstrom arrived last night. After taking the nicks out, it took a great edge. I'm wondering how old it is, its a composite frameback with a flat blade and separate spine section that looks like its made of brass.

Cetaphil cleanser
Hot Shower
Art of Shaving Lavender Cream
Dovo Silvertip brush
7/8 Wade & Butcher wedge (Bill Ellis)
AoS Alum block (applied and rinsed off with cold water)
Acqua di Parma Collezione Barbiere aftershave
A fascinating shaving experience, that wedge. It wiped my neck clean with two broad flat passes, same for my jawline and the side of my chin, usually difficult areas. I was shocked to see, about 2 minutes after I applied aftershave, that I had several small nicks. I think the lack of singing feedback encouraged me to add a little pressure, which resulted in the closeness but also caused the errors. I can now see why the wedges seem to make the hair "melt away." It's because their heft and solidity (as opposed to the obviously threatening hollow grinds) lends confidence. It's a weird illusion, because the blade is exactly as sharp with either grind, it just doesn't feel as sharp with the wedge. Anyone else have this sensation?
