I just shaved again with the Tonsorial and it finally shaves the way it's supposed to. Nice and close. Ofcourse there was a bit of redness but that's expected with a freshly honed blade. It is officially a member of my shaving rotation!

Same setup as before, but this time the razor was honed on the translucent arkansas using honing oil. The shave this morning was much better, altough it tugged just a tad more than my normal razors do at the beginning of the shave the edge didn't seem to deteriorate very much so that it tugged less at the end of the shave, indicating that the wider teeth are likely stronger. I don't pay attention to the grain when I'm shaving with a straight, and because I've got a couple of cowlicks in my beard parts of my first pass are cross and even against the grain.

Update: Interesting. I was stropping the razor before I put it away, and was surprised that the leather didn't align the fin. 20 laps in and I could still feel some grittiness in the drag. An examination of the edge against a good point light source showed the fin was still a bit out of alignment in a couple of places. 10 laps on the linen got it back into shape, but this is the first time I've actually *needed* the linen; normally I just use it to keep it from getting bored.
