Ouuuch Mike. I am sorry to hear about this experience, but believe me, in retrospect, you will be better off with is experience than without. The reason I say this is because honing is an empirical exercise, not theoretical. Your 2nd honing (and your butchered face) proves that. We can read all about it until we turn blue, but unless we actually do it and literally fail at it, nothing will come of it. Learning by doing is the best...So, I raise my glass to our failures and drink to our successes.
Mike,
This was not just a quest for being BBS. It redefined what BBS really is. I get nice BBS shaves with my other blades, but somehow this W&B left me with such level of satisfaction that I feel I have taken the wrong turn (or right turn). It is many a times a function of the steel and the grind and how one's face reacts to all the variables involved. The beauty of this sport is that it is all evolving. You may like a wedge today only to find out that a year down the road, your face prefers hollows. And what's more, things may change once again. The important thing is to really keep an open mind during this quest. What we know today, may not be what is cracked up to be tomorrow. This was my revelation today.
Have fun in this journey brother...Even though we all share the common goal in this quest, our journeys are personal. Keep pushing the envelop and let your shave evolve with you and you adapt to it. it's a beautiful experience, imho. May there never be an end to this progression.
You know...I have agonized whether I want to spend $30-$50 for someone else to shave me...But at the end, I decided that the only person qualified to give you your BEST shave is YOU. The zen happens when you whip up that beautiful fragrant lather (of your choice) with the brush (of your choice), pick up that razor (of your choice) and do what you do best every morning...YOUR WAY, not some barber who just graduated from school. Choice is another side effect of this sport that is under-appreciated. I, don't want my experience to be limited by regulations that the DHHS puts on the public.
Thank you buddy. This and her Monster cousin (1/4 hollow) were two of the best buys I had this month. As someone much wiser than me once told me: it's better to be lucky than good, LOOOL
LOOOOOOOOL. I wonder why?
Great shave GI, but I must give the biggest kudos to your grandson. Well done GI jr. That's too funny about his fear of Clubman, LOOOOL
Thank you Jack...but, I am still evolving and I feel that I have a long way to go. I really enjoy every detail of every shave.
You know...That's exactly what I was thinking too, LOOOOOL
She is more than just nice (I think). She's an artifact, perfectly preserved, LOOOOL. As to my other blades: Haaaaaaaaaaaa, LOOOOOL. Not because I don't want to, but every one of them has had a history in my book which I cannot shake all that easily. I have sold one razor and I still long for her sometimes. I am not opposed to however, sharing them with you if you want to try them out.
Forget the shave Rune...I can't get over this stunning photo. Love the theme and background. Work of art.
King,
How's the Dopo? never ran across it before. Sounds nice
Angel,
Believe me...I totally understand your frustration. I 9and most of us) have been where you are right now. But, as I was telling Mike, if it wasn't for my failures at honing, I wouldn't have been here (and I am only maybe 10% there). I still learn stuff from Max, Glen, Lynn and others.
So, grab those darn stones, take your blade and keep failing brother. In those failures, the winning ticket will reveal itself. Trust me. But do me a favor...fail on practice blades, not your real gems. At the end, you will not regret this journey (+ the satisfaction that comes with it).
Ahhh..You lucky dawg, LOOOOL . She's a beauty Antoni.
PS: Thanks for the kind words my friend
Disposal services, eh Nic? Don't trust 'em, LOOOOOOL.
I smell conspiracy brewing between you and Mikael here...Hmmmm!!
Another beautiful W&B. Nicely done Mike.
You pulled the words right out of my mouth buddy. That's exactly what I was thinking going through today's SOTDs.
Monroe...Enjoy your time buddy. I bet you'll be the cleanest shaven fellow there

See what happens when you go MIA for a few days, LOOOL.
Ahhh Teiste...Nice to see someone enjoying/using the RR AS wax
Carl,
That certainly sounds like a good experiment, but sorry that it didn't quite cut the grass so to speak. Will there be tweaking of the mix to see how far you cn push it or is this where this ends?
Great shave with the Genco and nice work with the cable Jeff. I bet your "kid" 9as you call her) is on cloud 9, LOL
Can't wait Dunc...If you can't beat 'em, join 'em
Welcome to SOTD...I didn't know the DE blades could also sing!!
LOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Thank you buddy
We sure missed you Glenn and ouuuchhh on the slice. How bad is it? Whatever you got planned for tomorrow is bound to be special.

Wonderful razor EA. I hope temps drop for you too so you can enjoy a lasting lather. Your shaves must be rushed over the summers

Guys,
Enjoy this political cartoon by KAL. I'll have another one to share tomorrow
Tom,
I particularly thought of you (especially when you had mentioned that Germany sends all their money to Greece but get no razors in return.

The situation in Greece is receiving the attention of our comedians now.
There is speculation that Tax Collection is and always has formed part of Greek Mythology and questions are being asked about how the Greek authorities managed to hide those debts. The consensus seems to be that it was probably in a big wooden horse.Regards

Sounds like a fun time to be had Tom. Enjoy the visit.
PS: Great shave
LOOOOOOOOL
Sorry to hear about the Nick brothers' visit Mikael, but it was worth it as this blade is gorgeous. Very nice. Also, a great match up between brush and coffee. That brush has "You" written all over it.
Who can blame you Otto. That must have been an amazing shave
Great shot GI...Don't work too hard.
Wowww. Congrats Bill. That Flaschner sure is a looker buddy. Al's latest and greatest sounds intriguing too
Grant,
4 days of growth should be no issues with that W&B. She's made for that. Well done mate.
Jack,
We'll miss you bro...Great shave to start your few busy days and fabulous wooden boat. She'll be fun to take out sailing
Thanks for the confirmation Joe
PS: Bill does have deep pockets...but most of his stuff should be looked at as investments that gain in value
LOOOOOOOL. It is comic relief Nic.
Nice Bengall Angel...Those are great shavers.
Heyyyy....no poking fun here guys. I don't even have pockets.
Great shave BM
Wowww Tim. That is a beautiful setup. Do you participate in that shooting competition every year?
Birnando,
That's a beautiful Novodur buddy and I agree with you...Those Spanish blades are something else
Hey buddy,
Welcome back to SOTD. You were very much missed. What way to come back too. Congrats on the BB custom and especially that Thater. I do know what you mean about the tips. These are amazing brushes indeed. What a great shave. Enjoy your day off
Crystal
