SOTD Oct 1 - Oct 7
My first SOTD post and I get to open up a fresh weekly thread for it.
2 days growth
Hot shower, creme rinse soak on beard
Hot towel, twice
Vulfix lavender shave cream
Vulfix 2234 brush
Tony Miller wide paddle strop
Heljestrand 5/8 round point
Alum block
Pinaud Clubman
This was only my 3rd shave with a straight and by far the best. Still have a way to go before the tough spots will be as good as I want them but a pretty damn good shave none the less. Feels great.

Thanked: 92 days' growth
Hot shower
Lucky Tiger Shave lotion
Omega Silvertip
Tony Miller 3" hanging strop
Dubl Duck Goldedge 6/8 rp
Trumpers Alum block
Lucky Tiger AS Toner
L'Occitane CADE AS Balm
This Duck fits my hands very well. Second shave with it. Unfortunately, nicked myself 2 times (not much blood at all). Part was aggressiveness / carelessness, another part was the Lucky Tiger shave lotion - while it lathered very easily and nicely, it did seem to offer less protection than some of my soaps. The nicks are small but I expected to do better
Did not have much redness so decided to try the alum block. Not the most pleasant experience but after an ice cube and some splashing felt OK. I guess I decided to use the block as a test to see how well I am doing... Not that well, it turns out, but certainly improving.
Cheers
Ivo

Fried. Herder 6/8 R/P (orange scales, immortalized by Lynn in the DVD)

I'm still at the point in the learning curve where every straight shave is better than the one before. Very happy with this one and no M3 clean up required.

Thanked: 0Still going on learning
Hot shower
Solingen SE (EBay-new), honed by LX_Emergency
Kruidvat oil
Kruidvat soap
Omega badger brush (I have it around for some 20 years, never lost a single hair)
Hot towel
Cold water splash
Williams cold ice AS cream
The more I shave, the more I'm getting the hang of it. Still learning the ropes (especially the jawline), but getting better every time. Last week I visited LX_Emergency for a honing master class. I've learned a lot, and I'm confident I can hone myself. Giving that a try in the weekend.
I love the hot towel. It was for free with an alum block from "De Vergulde Hand" (the Dutch will know what I'm talking about). It really relaxes the skin after the "torture"!
The Kruidvat oil and soap are own brand of a great drugstore here in Holland. Very cheap, but very good!
Yesterday I bought a box of Williams soap. I will give it a try tomorrow.
