Thanked: 346Mon:
Dovo travel brush
Palmolive lather cream
Feather AC with super pro blade
Pinaud Clubman A/S
I figured I'd play around with a different travel setup than I've been using. I normally take two razors and my travel paddle, but this is an international flight so I figured I'd go with the feather. If they confiscate my blades I can make do with injector blades for a week. This meant a change from my normal soap to a cream, and the palmolive in a tube travels better than the tubs. I just wish it had a less generic soapy smell - maybe I'll put a few drops of lavender EO in it and see if that helps...
Did a single twice-over pass this morning and got a shave that although substandard is nonetheless perfectly acceptable for the office, and it only took five minutes start to finish. I'll do this the next few days and see how my face handles it. Normally I can get two or three days out with the feather before my face starts showing the strain, but that was for a multi-pass shaving routine; this one-pass twice-over shave should be much easier on my face.

Thanked: 9Hot towel
Burma shave brush
Tabac soap
Tony Miller 3" strop
Puma 6/8 rp
Lucky Tiger AS Toner
L'Occitane Cade AS
L'Occitane Vetiver EDT
5 days without shaving! The Puma performed very well, but maybe something heavier and stiffer would have been even better. Just a couple of nicks, as my daughter distracted me a bit... Virtually no irritation after the shave - big achievement for me! Oh, I love the Vetiver after the CADE.
Ops, I just realized I have forgotten my brush w/ the lather... not good

Hot Shower
Rooney Best Badger brush
W&B 7/8 wedge
Carl Monkhouse 3" Russian leather Strop
Colleens Gentlemen's Oak & Moss shaveing cream (wow what lather!)
Gentlemen's Oak and Moss after shave lotion (Thanks Coleen!)
Great shave, two passes, the W&B can always be counted on for that...but the explosion of fragrance from the shaving cream, and a lather that was almost too thick made it particularly nice. With the scent of the after shave lotion lingering as I type this I just want to sit at my desk and enjoy...good thing it is raining or I might have played hooky from work and gone for a long walk in the woods today.

Thanked: 9Hot towel
Tabac soap
Proraso (Omega) Boar brush (Target) - boy this thing stinks!
Tony Miller strop
EAB 4/8 frameback rp
Goldedge 6/8 rp
ice cube
styptic pencil (yah, you guessed it)
Lucky Tiger AS Toner
JASON AS 6-in-1
L'Occitane CADE AS balm
EAB's real test. I managed to get HHTs on the toe after some sandpaper, 4k, 8k, Lithide. It felt very sturdy on 2 day's stubble and the size is quite convenient on the upper lip. . However, IT"S NOT SHARP ENOUGH! Argh, needs more pyramids... Nevertheless, good first pass, no blood, a bit of irritation (just a tad, on a couple of places)
Had to finish with the Duck. Couldn't believe how sharp it was after the EAB. Managed to cut myself once on the chin; and had to resort to the styptic pencil, it was messy for a while.
Ah, the brush. Just picked it up yesterday to try. I had heard people say that boar stinks but never had I imagined this! Before I used it, I tried 2 soaps and 2 creams, and soaked it in borax, and I am still detecting some leftover stench, I think... Otherwise great brush on my face, maybe does not hold as much water as I would like but one can add water later
Cheers
Ivo

Thanked: 346Another mediocre feather shave, three days running now. I'm remembering exactly why I ditched the feather those many months ago, I just can't get a close shave out of it without making 3-4 passes. I've about decided to take something else on the trip, so I'm gonna play with the shavette the next few days and if that doesn't do it then I'll take a junker razor and a paddle strop, if the razor gets stolen or lost then I'll buy a disposable.
I am beginning to really like the palmolive lather though. I tossed in a few drops of lavender EO so it's not quite so boringly soapy smelling.Last edited by mparker762; 10-11-2006 at 02:33 PM.

Two days growth
Hot towel
Vulfix 2234 brush
Vulfix Lavender cream
Tony Miller wide paddle strop, 80 laps
Torrey 5/8 notch point, slow and easy relather/3-4 passes on the tough areas
Alum block
Pinaud Bay Rum aftershave
Faceturbation all day
The scent in this shaving cream isn't very strong but the richness of the lather is excellent in my book. Might have been easier to take this much growth off with a larger blade but I've been waiting to try this Torrey and was not disappointed with it.

I'm just biding my time until my 3 new acquisitions become shave ready. I may even take 2 similar pieces and refresh one on the coticule and the other on the lithide, thus running a comparison test. Ofcourse, I'll keep you gentlemen posted.
